Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a passionate, skilled and talented Web Designer (front-end) to join our collaborative team in order to design, develop, maintain and improve SNHU’s web experiences. We are looking for an individual who shares our tenacity and perseverance and will demonstrate a strong commitment to integrity and ethics.

This role provides a variety of Web application design, development, and maintenance services for an innovative university and will be instrumental in improving the functionality and effectiveness of the university web properties with a laser focus on detail . They will provide support and guidance to fellow design and development team members.

This role requires the versatility to work well independently and/or within a team; providing design and technical staff assistance, as needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Assist executing the UXD strategy for Marketing’s web properties by designing and developing mobile-first responsive web controls, as part of a Design System that unifies SNHU’s public-facing online brand
  • Assist in the design, development and maintenance of SNHU’s Design System
  • Relentlessly aspire to improve and have a positive, can-do attitude while pushing the limits of the status quo every day through innovation, forward thinking, creativity and risk-taking
  • Ensure that web controls meet ADA/WCAG standards for accessibility (a11y)
  • Be mindful of UX/SEO guidelines and CRO data to inform designs, while collaborating with these teams to create experiments for lead driving tests
  • Communicate effectively and accurately with team leads and project managers to facilitate on-time deliverables
  • Manage code in a version control system
  • Help to define standards and best practices for front-end development architecture and UI patterns
  • Perform informal code reviews and validate changes within pull requests
  • Accurately scope and estimate design and front-end deliverables
  • Contribute, develop, and follow detailed technical specifications
  • Build web pages and site templates
  • Attendance, punctuality, reliability and onsite presence are essential functions of this role
  • Other duties, responsibilities or activities may be assigned at any time with or without notice

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of web design and front-end development experience delivering websites, software applications or products
  • Experience designing and developing for a Design System
  • Experience in website redesign
  • Experience with mobile-first responsive design and development
  • Strong front-end development skills utilizing PUG, HTML5, CSS/Sass and JS
  • Proficient at writing reusable and modular code
  • Experience with major web browsers and cross-browser/cross-device debugging skills
  • Experience in writing dynamic web interfaces
  • Experience with front-end build automation systems such as Grunt or Gulp
  • Experience with JavaScript libraries such as jQuery, Angular or React
  • Experience with front-end boiler plates such as Bootstrap or Foundation
  • Experience in using version control systems such as GIT, SVN, TFS, Azure DevOps

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a design or technical area, including graphic, industrial, human factor, human-computer interaction design or the equivalent in education and experience
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping applications (UXPin, Sketch, Adobe CC or comparable)
  • Familiarity with Scrum or Agile Software Development
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Personalization and A/B testing
  • Working knowledge of any enterprise level CMS

Work Hours:


Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.
